If you have a currently open project, it can be closed by File -> Close Project. KMyMoney also has "File -> Close" which is good. 2. When clicking File -> Open..., you are presented with a file/folder open dialog "Open File or Project". If you choose a folder, then it assumes you want to open another project so it asks you to choose one of the options, see screenshot. Until you answer affirmatively here, the current project is not closed.
