I think you talking about the “Audio Waveform Filter”.
The filter was intended for clips which have the audio embedded inside. So it’s
no more useful.
To see the wave form on audio: hit CTR+SHIFT+, (comma) and tick under Timeline
“Thumbnails”, “Audio” and “Separate Channels “ if needed. Then you see the
waveform.
