Note that the reason this resolves the issue is that is disables PRIME synchronization entirely (see https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/957814/linux/prime-and-prime-synchronization/ for details). So tearing would be expected, since this is how the NVIDIA driver is made aware of each vblank by the Intel driver.
