I cannot reproduce that. I tested with ownCloud with two account, I also create
small Qt app to test submenus - it worked fine in both cases.
QPA (plasma-integration) was used, after running:
unset XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
unset KDE_FULL_SESSION
icon was different, but worked in exactly the same way.
