Hi Jessie! Does this happen with one particular file or with all files
previously saved and reopened?
I ask because Krita saves the active selection to the file, so when reopening
the selection is still there. Make sure you don't have something selected
outside the canvas area, or a very tiny selection, wich will make it hard to
see. You can see current global selections in the menus: Select -> Show Global
Selection Mask. If you have one just Deselect it: Select -> Deselect.
