Bug ID: 363578 Summary: Unable to set lower resolution on high resolution laptop display Product: plasmashell Version: 5.6.4 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: Multi-screen support Assignee: aleix...@kde.org Reporter: mikael.sprin...@gmail.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org I am running openSUSE Tumbleweed on a Dell Precision M4800 laptop with a display having a native resolution of 3200x1800. The graphics card is NVIDIA, I have NVIDIA proprietary drivers installed manually. I use the laptop both docked and undocked. When docked I have two external monitors connected with a native resolution of 2560x1440 each. Docked or not, Plasma is unable to let me change the resolution of the laptop display. If I start Configure Desktop/Display and Monitor there is no slider for adjusting the laptop display resolution, it only shows "Resolution: 3200x1800" for DP-4 which is the laptop display. If I have external monitors attached (when docked) these monitors will have a slider that makes it possible to adjust their individual resolution when selecting them. Using NVIDIA X Server Settings it is possible to change the laptop display resolution, both when the laptop is docked using two external monitors and when it is not docked, only using the laptop display. But when I change the laptop display resolution using NVIDIA Settings it is as if Plasma doesn't understand this. The desktop background of the laptop display extends over the next adjacent display. And if I do this when the laptop is undocked using only the laptop display all Plasma widgets including the panel disappear. Only the top left corner of the desktop is visible, the panel is probably outside of what is shown on the screen and therefore not visible. In short, it's as if Plasma doesn't understand that the resolution has changed, it is only showing part of the desktop. Since the native resolution of the laptop display is 3200x1800 at the moment the laptop is almost unusable when not docked. When using it docked and having two external monitors attached I simply turn it of using NVIDIA Settings. This used to work with KDE4.
