            Bug ID: 421730
Summary: Calculate average download speed based on time
                    actually spent on downloading
           Product: ktorrent
           Version: 5.1
          Platform: Gentoo Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: joris.guis...@gmail.com
          Reporter: ko...@centrum.cz
  Target Milestone: ---

When downloading torrent, on the Status tab there is information about average
download/upload speed. It is clearly calculated based on the time elapsed from
starting the torrent. Therefore these numbers are decreasing, even when there
is nobody actually sending/receiving the data of the torrent.

When the torrent spends long time in this inactive state, but it's still
running, the average download speed is really low. It doesn't matter that 99%
of the data was downloaded at speed 5 MiB/s, if there was a pause when there
was nobody sending me the data, the average time can be in the end something
more like 5 KiB/s.

Wouldn't it be better, if the average speed was calculated based on time, which
the torrent was really receiving data? Like when you have a cyclocomputer,
which stops the stopwatch when you are not moving. Then your average speed is
more accurate, because it doesn't include your lunch break or when you were
waiting on the lights :-).

What do you think?
