I think this might be an issue with some lower level. Maybe systemd?
I'm on KDE neon with Plasma 5.22.4 and have this problem.
However the same (=logout) happens using
$ systemctl suspend
while
$ echo -n mem > /sys/power/state
puts the computer to sleep like expected
