Just to let you know: I have the same problem, with the only difference that
none of the offered solutions have worked for me. Whenever I try to update
mariadb, I get the message:
"Version check failed. Got the following error when calling the 'mysql' command
line client
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local server through socket
'$HOME/.local/share/digikam/db_misc/mysql.socket' (2)"
