It might be worth trying a different method: 1. Go to System Settings => Shortcuts => Shortcuts 2. Click "Add Application" and navigate to the application you want to launch (I chose Kate) 3. Click "+ Add custom shortcut" and press Alt-R 4. Click Apply See if that gives any clues! I get the system info from "Info Centre" where there's a "Copy to Clipboard" button.
