I think I might have the same issue, if by desktop you mean monitor.  I have
multiple systems and each has three monitors, and upon login the applications
generally start on the wrong monitor with different sizes than the ones I
saved.

Session restore had progressively gotten better until about the Fedora 31-32
era when I would pretty consistently get perfect session restoration at login. 
But after I updated to F34 (still using X11) it suddenly got much worse.

If there's any information on how I might be able to debug session restore I'd
be happy to try.  It's not a deal breaker but it gets annoying to have to drag
and resize 10-15 windows back into position whenever I login.
