Just simple-scan is currently nowadays program, what we can use. It has very few dependencies, therefore could be used also with KDE. It could be any other FLOSS program, if it does scan to PDF, including multipage PDF. It is just usual need for everydays life to use PDF-files rather than image files, especially in case of multiple pages. It would be impractical to use multiple image files instead of one PDF-file. Also using PDF gives appropriate page format for printing. Having just image file makes it harder to print.
