Just adding my voice to the sentiment that it should be possible to right-click
thumbnails in Preview mode.

I encourage a  re-thinking. Instead of talking about what the thumbnail bar is
for, let's ask what the thumbnails themselves are for - and what we should be
able to do with them.

If I multi-select 3 thumbnails in the thumbnail bar in Preview mode, and want
to rotate all of them, it's logical I should be able to right-click on one of
the thumbnails in my selection then choose rotate.  My intention is to rotate
all of the selected images.  If I wanted to rotate just the current picture
that is being previewed, then it would be fitting to right-click on the
previewed picture.

Anyway multiple people have commented on this, just wanted to add my voice.
