            Bug ID: 450397
Summary: There's no warning that extra steps are needed to
                    install system themes
           Product: systemsettings
           Version: git-stable-Plasma/5.24
          Platform: Manjaro
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: kcm_desktoptheme
          Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
          Reporter: bennyl...@cheerful.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
As someone who has newly switched to Linux from windows, it seems as though you
need a warning somewhere after you click on "Get new global themes" in the
system settings. It doesn't say anything there about you (almost) always
needing to go to a website and perform some extra steps.

So something like "Warning - A few extra steps are necessary to ensure the
theme functions as intended. Please visit x in order to find out the extra
steps you need to take to fully install this theme".

Right now they don't have anything like that, they just have an "install"
button which leads you to believe you'll click that button and install it, and
it will work. It would really be best if the theme's creator was required to
list the extra steps needed there as well. Instead of sending you off somewhere
else first. That way you could read them and decide if you really wanted to do
it.

I've tried out countless themes from the "Get new themes" button in the System
Settings, and it's unlikely I'm the only one who has noticed that very few of
them actually work. Most of them are what I'd call "incomplete". They don't
work in the manner that the thumbnail or the supplied images would suggest.
This is because more steps are needed, which must be gleaned from a website
somewhere.

For example, I'm using the "Gently" theme right now. It's only clear and glassy
when you're on the desktop screen. Any other time, it defaults to what appears
to be the dark blue Breeze theme. That's just a random example, most of the
themes appear to have some major flaw like this. Where one or more parts of the
theme just never functions. Using Manjaro KDE.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open system settings, and click on "Appearance"
2. Click "Global theme" and in the bottom right hand of the screen, click "Get
new global theme"
3. Select a theme to install, and install it. Notice how only parts of the
theme function, and it does not resemble what the author/creator shows in the
images supplied. Also note how there is a warning that it may not be curated,
but there is no list of additional steps needed. You must go to a website and
sift through what you need to do in order to get the theme working properly.
It's my belief that the author should be required to fill out a few fields that
would appear on a list in the System Settings when you select a theme. That way
we're not sent off to the internet to try and find out what else must be done.
Ideally the theme would install completely when you clicked the Install button.
And no extra steps would be necessary. Thank you
