Bug ID: 450731 Summary: Can't create bootable USB stick for Windows and Tails using Partitionmanager, Unetbootin or Terminal, Rufus on Windows works. Product: partitionmanager Version: 21.12.2 Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: andr...@stikonas.eu Reporter: amanita+kdeb...@mailbox.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Delete the partitions of a USB Stick 2. Create a new GPT partition table 3. Create a new ext4 partition 4. save 5. restore the partition using an .img or .iso file 6. try to boot into it OBSERVED RESULT I cant boot, after selecting the stick I get immediately reverted to the "select boot medium" window in BIOS. The same happened when I tried to create a bootable stick with unetbootin or the normal terminal way. I tried to do it about 5 times. In Windows, using Rufus, it worked perfectly at the first try. EXPECTED RESULT Why should Linux have problems creating a bootable Linux USB drive? What can Rufus do what the Linux programs cant? SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Old very well supported hardware, BIOS, no secureboot, no problems installing Linux or running live USB in general. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
