If I have selected a painting brush and painted and the press command the eyedropper is displayed. 2. If I then select a non painting brush like an eraser and press command the icon does not display. 3. If I then select a painting brush and press command the icon does not display. 4. If I then paint and press command the icon returns. This leads to a point where I must paint with a colour I don't necessarily want (3) before I can see the icon again. I hope this helps you.
