It's also not packaged for ubuntu as far as I can see, either.) This sounds like a keyring problem: kasts will first try to save the password to the current keyring through "secret service"; if that doesn't succeed it will save the password into a local file. In principle it should fall back gracefully. Are you using a keyring like kde wallet, gnome keyring or keepass(xc)?
