If you are using the Ubuntu digiKam package, it is a snap package. Snap
packages use a sandox and are useless to use digiKam. Flatpak is also not
suitable without the appropriate configuration of the rights. We do not support
either type of package. Use our AppImage under Ubuntu. It's a shame Ubuntu
isn't able to build native digiKam packages.
