This is still happening as it has not been addressed.
A fix was submitted (https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/790),
but there was not consensus that this is indeed a bug and the proposed change
could be confusing, so it got closed.
In the lack of a better UI alternative to indicate that a window is in several
VDs (but not "pinned to all desktops"), I'd consider this as intentional, so
closing for now.
