It has always been condensed. The font is never reset on login but is shown
condensed immediately.

But I played around with the setting again and it seems the problem to be an
issue with selecting Noto Sans. Even though I selected Noto Sans Regular in the
font dialog, the system is instead using Noto Sans Display Regular, which is
narrower than the non-display version. Neither my local nor global font.conf
mentions Noto Sans. Any ideas why?
