Bug ID: 457451 Summary: Automatic transcoding of video files result in huge files Product: kdenlive Version: 22.04.3 Platform: Microsoft Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Status: REPORTED Severity: critical Priority: NOR Component: Video Display & Export Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org Reporter: marcwalling...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Add .mp4 video clips from any smartphone 2. Kdenlive will force you to transcode them, select highest quality (losless) transcoding 3. Kdenlive will create huge files for each clip OBSERVED RESULT Kdenlive forces the transcofing of .mp4 smarpthone videos (maybe other types of videos too, I've not tested other formats). Because you most likely want to work with the best possible quality, Kdenlive will generate really huge files. >From a project of mine, I went from 4.5GB raw material to 90GB, this is not manageable. EXPECTED RESULT Kdenlive shouldn't force you to transcode anything, like it did in previous versions. Furthermore, if possible, the transcoding process shouldn't really generate a bigger file than the raw source material, where is that extra data coming from?
