Bug ID: 457593 Summary: Pre-installed 3rd party deb packages should be replaced with Snap or Flatpak, or KDE applications from the main repo Product: neon Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org Reporter: ryuichi.ya...@gmail.com CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 151164 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=151164&action=edit Discover does not show VLC though it is installed on the system SUMMARY Among the KDE applications, deb packages of Firefox and VLC come pre-installed on KDE Neon. But apparently the Discover in KDE Neon is configured not to show non-KDE deb packages; that means that users can't uninstall those packages via Discover. This is confusing especially for users who are not very familiar with Linux. Firefox deb is going to be replaced with Snap soon anyway, so it's basically about VLC. It could be replaced by Snap or Flatpak of the same application, or a KDE application such as Dragon Player. Plus, I think it's nice to have a disclaimer somewhere, such as on the website or on a welcome pop-up on the first boot, that the Discover on Neon is not supposed to be used to install non-KDE deb packages. Should I file another ticket for this? Thank you. Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon 5.25 User Edition / Plasma 5.25.4 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
