Well, if the project was started in 16.04, you should have backup versions
still available from the 16.04 times. You can open a backup version using
"Project > Open backup file". When doing this from a blank project, you will
see all existing backups, you then need to find the correct name/date.
The Kdenlive file format is changing from one version to another and backwards
compatibility, like opening a Kdenlive 16.08 project with Kdenlive 16.04 is not
something we are going to support
