That's the reality with GMA500 Intel graphics.  You might still be correct,
because it's a laptop not a desktop.  But I don't quite imagine why you'd make
that caveat?

It's slow graphics.  But usable.  Kubuntu 14.04 was acceptable performance
though.  Kubuntu 15 is awful, because it takes many seconds to get though the
lock screen.  Actually, once logged in, performance seems acceptable.

I'm not sure how to take the idea of modern, yet broken rendering.  Nor do I
want to discuss it - I'm just a user experiencing awful regression in
performance.

But even if you feel that KDE should be considered incompatible with remote X
or sub-par graphics, surely all of this is an indication that there's something
worth fixing.  Just because people don't notice the slowdown on high spec
desktops doesn't mean that it isn't eating up a whole heap of unnecessary watts
and affecting their battery life and/or power bill every time they go to the
lock screen.
