Thanks for the explanation. The problem I see with AppImages is that they are
not updated automatically. Additionally, my system is already using Apt, Snap,
and Flatpak, which I think are too many different methods. But that's a
personal choice. At least I know why digikam behaves as it does. I might go
back to the 7.5 apt packages or use Rob Savoury's PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/digikam) to maintain the
option and automatic updates. I'll see.
