            Bug ID: 463716
Summary: Closing Steam's new Big Picture mode has a chance to
                    crash the desktop
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Archlinux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: wayland-generic
          Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: betami...@posteo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Exiting Steam's big picture mode has a chance of crashing the compositor.
I have previously reported this issue in the Steam issue tracker
(https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/9041) and was told to
raise it with the package maintainer or developer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot pc and log on
2. Start Steam and open Big Picture Mode (e.g. via Settings > Interface and
checking "Start Steam in Big Picture Mode")
3. Open menu (e.g. via B on gamepad) and choose "Exit Big Picture Mode"

OBSERVED RESULT
Steam closes and (in more than 50% of cases) causes the desktop (compositor?)
to crash, dropping me to a black screen with some log.
Shortly after this, the log disappears and I am stuck with an empty black
screen with just my mouse cursor.
Pressing random keys on the keyboard has no impact, but touching the
touchscreen seems to create some event that causes the log to come back.

The log reads something like this (written down by hand from a video recording
I did):
"The X11 connection broke (error 1). Did the X11 server die?s?id: 2097173,
major code: 129 (SHAPE), minor code: 3 (Combine) constantwas not
specifiedsteamwebhelp
Fatal IO error 11 (Die Ressource is zur Zeit nicht verfügbar) on X server: 0"

Strangely enough, in some cases (I did try narrowing down what causes the issue
and have run into it more than 20 times by now) it will show these lines prior
to the X11 ones:
"The Wayland connection broke. Did the Wayland compositor die?49-8061-????"e:
129 (SHAPE), minor code: 3 (Combine)ndefined to int specifiedsteamwebhelp"
(the ??? is unreadable in my recording and I am unsure how to get the specific
log from my device after rebooting)

EXPECTED RESULT
Steam closes and I am able to continue using my device.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux, up to date as of now (02/01/2023)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0
Qt Version: 5.15.7
Steam: 20 Dec 2022 (opted into beta)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is an Intel 1165g7 (Intel Tiger Lake) based "laptop" / handheld by the
name of OneXPlayer.
As it is essentially a laptop with integrated gamepad, I would assume this
error to manifest itself on similar devices as well.
