Desktop slide effect is nauseating [was changed between kwin 5.24 and present] 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable virtual desktops
2. Enable slide effect when changing desktops
3. Add a keyboard shortcut for changing desktops
4. Make sure you have some kind of plastic bag available
5. Switch desktops

OBSERVED RESULT
The effect is very slow and causes nauseating feeling

EXPECTED RESULT
The effect should be fast and behave like it did in the previous versions of
kwin

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I've dug up the commit that changed this behavior, and from the commit history
I've concluded that this change was made because one of the developers is using
touchpad gestures (are they even a thing on linux?) and wanted to make it feel
more natural for him... and now I can't use multiple desktops.

I've already tried contacting the person who made this change but I got no
response, so this bug tracker is the last hope for me I guess.
