HOW TO REPRODUCE
1. Create any file or folder on the desktop.
1. Right click on the desktop and select "configure desktop and wallpaper"
2. Set "layout" to "desktop"
3. Install and enable "variety"
RESULT
After a few days the layout reverts to "folder view", and the contents of the
desktop become visible again.
