            Bug ID: 471521
Summary: Allow assigning keyboard shortcut to existing feature:
"Select all" + "Group by filename"
    Classification: Applications
           Product: digikam
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: unspecified
                OS: All
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Albums-MainView
          Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
          Reporter: k...@i.yeb.me
  Target Milestone: ---

This is a small feature request, that may be a simpler solution to solve other
larger ones that have been going on for like 10 years.

Currently (as far as I can still tell), there is no easy way to group/ungroup
JPG + RAW pair files in Digikam.

The feature is there, it's just incredibly tedious to deal with when you're
navigating in and out of 1000s of folders. To the point where I can't even use
Digikam to arrange my photos sadly, it's just too laborious to even bother.
And I've been unable to find any other decent software to for this basic task,
aside from Lightroom, is which overkill and too slow to be usable.

Existing feature:

When navigating into a single album/folder, JPG + RAW can already be grouped
using these manual steps:

1. Select all the files with: ctrl + a
2. Right-click on one of the files
3. Click "Group"
4. Click "Group Selected By Filename"

And basically the same 4 steps to ungroup.

Requested addition:

Under "Configure Keyboard Shortcuts...":

* I can't see anything related to this in the existing options for assigning
keyboard shortcuts.
* Can you please add an action called something like "Toggle group all files by
filename"

This single tap of a hotkey would then do the same as **ALL FOUR** steps
listed above. Including #1.

This would be an amazing improvement in the usability of Digikam for anyone to
shoots in both JPG + RAW (which I would have thought was a lot of people).

Similar issues:

There's another issue at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318357 (and a
few others)... of course it would be great if they were implemented too. They
want a regex, so there's obviously more advanced needs there. But my request
here might solve it for a good number of us for now. After 10 years of waiting
+ bike-shedding, it seems like there isn't much hope that feature happening
though.

This maybe is easier for the devs to add first (seeing it's just a keyboard
shortcut to features that already exist), and at least cover the most
fundamental common use case of pairing JPG + RAW like other programs like
Lightroom etc can.

Toggle:

Having this keyboard shortcut be a toggle (usable to un-group too) would be
great too, because then you can quickly switch between grouped/ungrouped for
those cases where you want to just work on individual files.

Sticky across folders:

In terms of whether this toggle setting apples:

* a) only to the current folder
* b) or it's a "sticky" thing that is remembered when you go into a different
folder...

My own preference would be (b). i.e. I hit my hotkey once, and then every
other folder I navigate into is the same as that latest state. Because this is
the mode I want to be in 99% of the time anyway. If there's a reason to just
go with (a) for now (i.e. (b) would delay adding it), that's ok too. At least
with a single hotkey it's quick to tap 100s of times in a sitting, but the
currently needed 4 steps of mouse clicking are way too painful though, and it's
the one-and-only reason Digikam is currently unusable to me sadly.
