It's possible that albums/tags search completer need to be populated at startup with GUI blocking. If yes, the Q is why it's blocking under windows ? Here under Linux my collections are giant and i cannot reproduce the problem... Another possibility is the Marble blank dialog visible at startup when one geo-location tab is visible in the GUI. Peter, please hide the geo-location view in digiKam, close and restart to see if the time latency still present...
