Bug ID: 479039 Summary: Don't call Plasma's widgets "plasmoids". Classification: I don't know Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: dave.lindbe...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Don't call Plasma's widgets "plasmoids". If KDE is stuck with the term for historical reasons, gradually deprecate it. The term "widget" is an existing well-known term used across many operating systems. It applies to KDE "plasmoids" as well as it does anywhere else. Adopting cute, unique, special names for existing standard concepts just makes KDE more off-putting and confusing to new users. (This is not the only example, but is one of the most egregious.) If a concept has a well-known name, use it. Save invention for ideas that need new names. You wouldn't call files "Plasma streams", would you? Or call icons "hieroglyphs", would you? That would be obviously confusing, since everyone already knows what "files" and "icons" are. /rant -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
