I can spin up a VM to verify but, again, I am confident nothing has changed. The title remains useful in that it is the exact circumstances to encounter this issue. The bug does not occur if you do not use kmozillahelper, and kmozillahelper cannot be invoked without firefox, but you can use firefox without kmozillahelper.
