I think the root of the issue here was a mis-configuration on my part;
keepassxc was prompting for consent to disclose a secret, but due to some local
configuration those prompts are very frequently not visible (see also:
https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc-browser/issues/1980 ).
It's possible that I was not running KPXC some of the times I had tried. It
seems that neochat provides no indication when the secret service is not
running.
I do think that printing a bit more information to stdout would help.
Especially when the secret service is not running.
I'll close this though, since this seems to be resolved. Sorry for the noise.
