OK, I managed to resolve it on my system, but the fix is not pleasant.
I wiped my whole home directory and started with a fresh profile. It took a day
or two to get most configurations back to the way I like them, but at least
this menu issue is now resolved.
I suspect that this issue came about from an imperfect conversion of my profile
from QT5 to QT6. There is undoubtedly a more elegant way to get rid of this
issue, but the profile needed a clean in any case as I am a serial tinkerer.
