I have this same issue with my KDE installation and I had initially felt lucky
for finding this thread that addresses it. However much of what is discussed
here goes way beyond my experience; and unfortunately, I couldn't understand
the part that discusses the solution, but instead read much about the problem
itself.
I'd like to ask for some specific steps on fixing, for example, Firefox icons.
