I think the first step would be to reproduce in a Qt6-based KMail. Then, we should double-check the statement from Laurent Montel I pasted (Laurent is still one of the main devs but he checked this 10 years ago...) Depending on whether this is confirmed on the KMail side, a minimal repro should be written to open an issue with Qt, or KMail should be fixed.
