It has been, Aleix implemented this a while back in some 5.x version.

Yes this is a big deficiency and tracked in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477750. I hope to tackle it by the end of
the year, now that other features are getting merged.

This is now implemented and will appear in Plasma 6.2!
