In general, please do not delete configuration files. If they're unrelated to
the issue you only made extra work for yourself restoring them; and once they
are gone the developers can't request them to help track the error if need be.

Creating a new user and logging in as that user is sufficient, or (if that is
not an option) moving the configuration files to a backup directory.
