--- Comment #245 from Michael Butash <mich...@butash.net> --- So far, I've not been able to make 5.8.3 behave in the least in terms of keeping the task bar entirely sticky to the actual intended monitor using either nvidia-settings or kde settings/display. They definitely do not get along, today I got sick of having it crash every day to force a hard reboot and had some time to fiddle with it. I did try as well the script mentioned here for giggles, which didn't do anything for me at all. I set up nvidia-settings as the defacto, and let it create an xorg.conf file just to let it setup as standard old school style. My intention is always to use my middle display, dp-2 as the "primary" for the taskbar to be sticky to, but not since my old desktop on 5.7.2 can I get it to stay. I shutdown sddm from alt vty, and removed .config/plasma*, .config/kwin*, and .local/share/kscreen/* to reset things, and has so far helped some, but the taskbar doesn't stay still when I shut off all displays, and most annoyingly, it resets my center wallpaper every time. Same as it was in 5.5.x ubuntu 16.04 shipped with. I have not used kde display properties since clearing these out. I tried rearranging the dp-2 as the primary display as per the nvidia xorg.conf setting, which only seemed to confuse kde more to move things around again. I had to reset the xorg.conf file again with nvidia-settings to get the taskbar back there, and reset my wallpaper. I shut down all 3 displays again, again the center wallpaper resets, and the taskbar jumps over to dp-0 on the left. Cairo-dock, which I seat atop in the center stays there, it is set to use what it sees as "Screen 0 (middle)", which seems to reflect what I had set xorg to, making the "middle" dp-2 as primary. Almost every time, once I've shut the displays off and on at least 2 times, almost certainly, the next time, it simply doesn't wake up fully, and crashes. Here's my xrandr -q and xorg.conf currently. I see nothing obviously wrong from .local/share/kscreen/kscreen.log, but I can post that as well with some notation of events if helpful user@host:~$ xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 11520 x 2160, maximum 32767 x 32767 DVI-D-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-0 connected 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1872mm x 1053mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.98 4096x2160 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 24.00 23.98 1920x1080 60.00 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.97 60.00 50.04 1680x1050 59.95 1600x900 60.00 1440x900 59.89 1366x768 59.79 1280x1024 75.02 60.02 1280x800 59.81 1280x720 60.00 59.94 50.00 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 800x600 75.00 72.19 60.32 720x576 50.00 50.08 720x480 59.94 60.05 640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94 DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 connected primary 3840x2160+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1872mm x 1053mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.98 4096x2160 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 24.00 23.98 1920x1080 60.00 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.97 60.00 50.04 1680x1050 59.95 1600x900 60.00 1440x900 59.89 1366x768 59.79 1280x1024 75.02 60.02 1280x800 59.81 1280x720 60.00 59.94 50.00 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 800x600 75.00 72.19 60.32 720x576 50.00 50.08 720x480 59.94 60.05 640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94 DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-4 connected 3840x2160+7680+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1872mm x 1053mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.98 4096x2160 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 24.00 23.98 1920x1080 60.00 59.94 50.00 29.97 25.00 23.97 60.00 50.04 1680x1050 59.95 1600x900 60.00 1440x900 59.89 1366x768 59.79 1280x1024 75.02 60.02 1280x800 59.81 1280x720 60.00 59.94 50.00 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 800x600 75.00 72.19 60.32 720x576 50.00 50.08 720x480 59.94 60.05 640x480 75.00 72.81 59.94 DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) user@host:~$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 361.42 (buildd@lgw01-18) Tue Apr 5 14:33:28 UTC 2016 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Files" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "SAMSUNG" HorizSync 15.0 - 135.0 VertRefresh 24.0 - 75.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce GTX 1070" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "Stereo" "0" Option "nvidiaXineramaInfoOrder" "DFP-4" Option "metamodes" "DP-2: nvidia-auto-select +3840+0, DP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, DP-4: nvidia-auto-select +7680+0" Option "SLI" "Off" Option "MultiGPU" "Off" Option "BaseMosaic" "off" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
