I think the usual KDE approach is to have a discussion and let the contributors decide for themselves what the right course of action for them is. It would be worthwhile to think about making “sustainable computing” a KDE goal (as in “the desktop should be as energy-efficient as possible”, for example). That would have a concrete impact on the community.
