Indeed, most likely a misunderstanding of what I wrote.

The base API for Akonadi services has a method for retrieving a suitable 
window Id for the "dialog parent" role, however it has to be provided by 
something that has a window.

Its current implementation is rather limited, i.e. it does it D-Bus call to 
the Akonadi Systemtray application.
Being a D-Bus call this could be implemented by a more appropriate workspace 
component.
