There are binary incompatible plugins loaded from somewhere, maybe a path pollution leading to master crossing 4.7, maybe 3rd party plugin (relicts) You can use: strace plasma-desktop 2>&1 | grep <possibly_evil_plugin_path> to check whether and what's loaded there.
