This feels like either a CMake bug, or a bug in the CMake *Config.cmake files that get installed into $PREFIX/lib/cmake. But I don't really have enough CMake expertise to be able to pin down why it doesn't understand what compiler features are available for gcc or what code is asking for these features in the first place.
