Seems that when using -library=Crun (or -lCrun) we're hitting a bug in SS.
I gave the VM 2.6GB RAM and 3GB swap. When linking WebCore the ld process 
inflated to 3.1GB (whole RAM and 1.3GB swap taken) and crashed (reproducible 
anytime).
I'll file a bugreport once I figure out where to put 3GB core:-)
