Thanks, Brett. I really appreciate you trying this stuff out. The usual thing
is that it works for me (well, of course, because I'm writing and massaging it
all the time) on all my machines (a diverse bunch, but still ..) and then it
fails spectacularly elsewhere. Sometimes I attribute those failures to the
being-michael-schuster factor, but that doesn't apply here.

Can you take a look that that file does contain something that looks like
libtool? gzcat /export/home/kdeuser/packages/SOURCES/Solaris-libtool.gz |
head -20 or so. Just to check that it is not the libtool thing that is the
problem.

Also, could you

rm ~/packages/SOURCES/Solaris*
rm ~/packages/SPECS/*
rm -rf ~/packages/BUILD/*

just to be on the tidy side? That will make sure that there are no unintended
or old specfiles hanging around (I thought pkgtool would handle that, but I'm
not entirely sure). Actually, don't tidy up just yet ..

One more thing before you tidy: can you look in
~/packages/BUILD/FOSSstdcxx-4.2.1/amd64/stdcxx-4.2.1/
and check that there is, in fact, a Solaris/ directory in there?
