I had the same problem (or similar problems) checking out from cvsdude using the svn that comes with Solaris Nevada. Finally, I built svn and all its dependencies myself and put them all in /usr/local. Now, if I put /usr/local/bin first in my path and /usr/local/lib first in LD_LIBRARY_PATH, svn checkouts work.
