So, don't use root, don't use PA > profile. Just Software Installation. for the record: I talked to an expert in the field of privileges/profiles. I can't explain what's happening yet, but here's what I think I understood: matching of profiles/privileges happens on a first-match basis, so the order in which you specify profiles in /etc/user_attr *does* matter. I still need to (and hope to get around to doing) research on how this affects the installation at hand. Admittedly the priority seems fairly low, given that we know of at least one workaround. more when and if I get to it.
