I faced literrly the same problem using the latest blastwave kde package and only that (which of course caused a massive addition of other blastwave packages) on solaris 10 update 4.
after the install kde worked (without the terminal actually though) however gnome did not worked anymore, for no user on the entire system. only pkgrm of the blastwave packages stopped this nightmare.... -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
