One more followup to give an idea of where we are: the KDE SC 4.4.0 beta 1 packages are being finished up. That means you can build them from source using Sun Studio 12. OSOL and nv124+ are supported, and Ben is working on getting the whole stack to build on Solaris10 again as well (it was neglected for a while). Belenix - OpenSolaris based - has KDE 4.3 in a pretty good shape, based on gcc. Stability and performance are real issues for KDE 4.4 right now; performance might pick up with non-debug bulds, but I believe we're hitting some kind of fundamental (e.g. mutex) issues lower down in the stack that might take serious engineering to iron out. However, we don't really have the manpower or technical know-how to do that -- the three or four people actively working / volunteering on keeping the specs up to date so that they will build KDE at all aren't the kind of systems whizzes who can do that. Also, just plain user testing with careful bug reports is lacking, so if you can do *that*, it would help as well. [ade]
