Hi,
the survey is now closed. Thanks to all 125 participants who shared their views
and desires!

The results are available at

Some more frequent or interesting requests and remarks by the survey
participants:

Keep up the good work, you rock!
Blog and evangelize more!
Once KDE is stable I can finally switch to OpenSolaris
Integrate the TimeSlider feature and Dtrace probes
Unify the prefixes
Turn off debug mode

Below I'll try to cover the information that is not directly visible from the
graphs and is somehow interesting. You can get the raw data at
http://tropikhajma.sweb.cz/osol/survey-results-latest.ods if you need the exact
numbers or want to test your own hypothesis.

Most of them were interested in running KDE4 on OpenSolaris/x86, although
interest in S10 is also significant. I'd expect the S10 and Sparc requests to
increase once we see them built regularly. Right now we don't really advertise
ourselves outside OpenSolaris channels.

Regarding 32/64 bit packages, over 40 per cent of the participants want to
watch all of the bits they've paid for working. This view is particularly
stressed by : people interested in Sparc support, the ones requesting
localization, Korona users, and people unfamiliar with the project. The
opposite view is shared more by Solaris users, people building their own
packages and the ones willing to join the project.

Concerning KDE version, the clear winner is the latest stable version.
A bit higher interest in slightly older version of KDE is among people
interested in S10 support, while latest devel version is more attractive to
people with OSOL2009.06/x86 and devel versions of OSOL in their minds, to
people who build their own packages, participate in the discussions and to
people unfamiliar with the project; but the latest stable is a winner there as
well. Slightly older version is acceptable for about one quarter of Solaris and
Windows users, as well as for people requiring just basic KDE.

It is not really surprising to see demands for stable version correlate with
demands for stability in general. On the same note, people interested in latest
devel versions are much more tolerant to bugs.

Basic KDE finds most fans in people interested in Sparc on OpenSolaris, in the
ones happy with older KDE versions as well as the latest devel fans. It's
preferred by Solaris and MacOS users and people unfamiliar with the project. On
the other hand, Korona users and people who only check the project status
periodically prefer it less.
Standard KDE is more popular among people interested in S10/Sparc and
OpenSolaris 2010.03/Sparc
Complete KDE is valued more than average by Solaris, BSD and Windows users.
Potential KDE on Sparc users don't really want KDE+Extra apps, same applies to
Solaris users.
People who would like to somehow participate in the project tend to require
either everything or just the basic features.

Rock stability is a priority for BSD and MacOS users, people who are unfamiliar
with the project and people who just check the project status once in a while.
Most bug tolerant are Windows and Solaris users, people who build the packages,
participate in the discussions or would like to join the project and a certain
portion of people unfamiliar with the project.

Localization is quite a requested feature. It is mostly demanded by BSD,
Windows and OpenSolaris users, as well as Korona users and people unfamiliar
with the project. It's not so much demanded by people interested in KDE on
Sparc or S10.
